Your baby's name

This website is hilarious. You tell it the parent's names, and it tells you what your kids names should be. It runs on an algorithm. http://www.babynamescountry.com/babynamesadvisor.html

kangaroo swords

Mana told me she has a kangaroo sword, and pointed to the inside of her cheek. She was referring to a canker sore....funny girl!

Names for Grandmother

The other day Mana's teacher at church was talking about families to the kids (3 yrs and under). She asked who has a grandmother. Mana looked over at me and said "mom, I don't have a grandmother, right?" I laughed and said "of course you do Mana, you have Mormor and Tutu". After I said that, I realized that no wonder she didn't know she had grandmothers. Mormor is the Swedish word for grandmother, and Tutu is the Hawaiian word for grandmother. I guess we never bothered to tell her that before!
Then when the teacher asked who had cousins, Mana smiled and said "I have cousins! Uncle Lanndyn is my cousin!" Then I had to explain to her that Uncle Lanndyn is actually her uncle, but she's got lots of cousins like Lance, Erik, Kahanu, Lina, Masi, Wayne, T.J. Tiara, and Heavani.

thanks Arnie! for affecting the lives of the workers in your own state

On Thursday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) signed an executive order reducing pay for state workers and laying off more than 10,000 temporary and seasonal workers, with exceptions for health care, law enforcement and public safety workers, the Los Angeles Times reports.Workers whose pay is cut would receive their lost wages once a state budget is approved.Michael Genest, the governor's finance director, said the cuts are needed to ensure that the state has sufficient cash reserves to run through September (Rothfeld, Los Angeles Times, 8/1).The pay cuts would not take effect until September at the earliest. However, Controller John Chiang (D) has pledged to continue to pay state workers their full salaries, setting the stage for the governor to bring a lawsuit to force Chiang to comply with the executive order.

Nice how the state will reimburse us for our paychecks later, but of course won't pay us any interest on that money. However, whenever we owe the state money, they charge us interest! Also nice how Arnie claims this is the only way the state can pay it's bills, is to only pay the state workers federal minimum wage of $6.55 per hour. And this is a guy who flies from LA to Sacramento to work everyday. Supposedly Mr. Green. Not!
