Come see the girls dance on Saturday

If you're looking for something cultural to do this Saturday (5/2), come on out to Cal Poly Lantern Festival. It begins at 5:00 pm. Our girls will be dancing hula at 6:30 pm outside the Student Union. If it's raining, it will be in the Chumash Auditorium, just a few steps away. Robb will be singing and playing uke to the dancers. It should be fun.

Come out to the 15th Annual Lantern Festival Saturday for some food, performances, games, and fun! Get in tune with your Asian-American heritage and meet the other Asian-Interest organizations at Cal Poly! This event is FREE and located in the University Union Plaza from 5 PM-9 PM!

Amateur photographer

I came upon Kawai last night. She had pulled out some fabric from my collection and set it up as a background for her photo studio. I haven't taught her some photo basics yet, as you can see, but it was so cute I had to post. There the sisters are posing in the "studio". A few lessons in framing and positioning, I think, and she'll be taking great photos.

Panda Birthday

Finally, at long last, Mana had her 4th birthday party, which had been rained out in February. We combined it with Alani's 2nd birthday party. What a smart idea! Less parties to put on during the year.

I wanted to make a homemade party favor, and when Mana was asked which animal I should make, she came up with panda bear. Well, almost a day later, Robb and I have been "panda beared out". Lucky for me, he was a willing participant and helped me cut bodies, ears, etc. I learned a lot about sewing on this project though. Like after you stuff the head, it becomes way skinnier, so it doesn't really look like a panda anymore. Robb did a good job trying to turn the cupcakes I made into pandas, but that wasn't easy either.

Fun night at the Children's Museum

In case you didn't know, the SLO Children's museum has free admission every third Thursday night during Farmer's Market from 5-8. We plan on making that a monthly tradition. Mana was so thrilled with the stage and can't stop talking about it. Kawai hates the third floor (because you have to take the elevator up there and she has been traumatized about taking elevators. She was excited to see the sign says the 3rd floor is for ages 4 and under, so she is too old to go up there :-) She's worried because at the end of the month her class is taking a field trip there and she's afraid she'll have to go up there again.)

Egg Find

In Alani's words, we went to an awesome "Egg Find" today with church. The girls all scored 10 eggs!!

Natural blonde?

How do you like Kawai with blonde hair?
Then here's Mana. Thanks to the hand-me-downs yesterday, we got a Hanna Montana set.

You know it's been a long day when...

Robb was giving out ice cream cones to the girls while we were all watching Horton Hears A Who! After he scooped Alani's cone, he called out "Horton...I mean, Alani, here's your cone". Now this cute 2 year old face doesn't look like an elephant, does it?

Alani is 2!!!

Well Alani turned 2 this morning and she is a very happy girl. She knows it's a special day. She is playing dress-up, eating playdoh, and all the fun things you get to do when you are 2. Poor big sister Mana has a high fever, and is moping on the couch. How sad.

How do I pick?

I hate it that the preschool gets pretty good photographers to come and get photos of the kids, and they even come 2 times per year. Because I get sucked in because they do a good job. And this time around it's Alani's first "professional" photo, so of course I have to buy one. But they ain't cheap.
